Social Studies 2021-2022

 Materials Used: Maps Globe Multiple picture books on various topics, including World Book's Taste the World series, and the Count your Way Through...series.    Topics Covered: Foods Around the World The Continents Nations of the World National Flags Capital Cities Language and Writing Religion Cultural Differences Kindness and Sharing Respect Good Manners   Zadok attends Sunday School and a weekly Story Hour at the local library. He enjoys both very much, and always participates. He's good at making friends and enjoys being around other kids. He occasionally sends letters or pictures to his friends back in St. Louis.

Art/Drawing 2021-2022

 Zadok loves drawing, especially maps. He does a lot of drawing in his free time, but we also have more structured art lessons periodically, where we paint and practice concepts of shape and color.

Materials Used: Seymour Simon's Solar System Series Usborne's Mysteries and Marvels of Nature Planet Earth (BBC Video Series) The Trials of Life (BBC Video Series)  Multiple picture books about various related topics, animals, plants, planets, oceans, etc. For example, The Great Rhino Rescue and The Great Gobi Bear Rescue, both by Sandra Markle. Nature Walks and Outdoor Observation, including growing a garden and various indoor plants A Visit to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia A Visit to Linvilla Orchard Topics covered: The life cycle of plants and seeds The solar system, including names and facts about all the planets Weather and Seasons Animal Classifications (mammal, bird, reptile, etc.)  

History 2021-2022

 The Story of the World Volumes II and III by Susan Wise Bauer (this covers the late Medieval Period to the American Revolution) A History of Us: From Colonies to Country by Joy Hakim Various picture books relating to time periods, people, or subjects covered in the above books Zadok loves history reading!  Viking Ship

Reading and Writing 2021-2022

 Topics Covered: (Writing) Letter formation, both upper and lowercase Correct use of pencil Correct use of lined paper   (Reading/Grammar) Short Vowel Sounds Consonant Clusters, ck, sh, th, ch, etc. Silent E and Long Vowel Sounds Diphthongs, ea, ou, oi, ai, etc. Homophones Rhyming Words Nouns, Verbs and Adjectives  Simple Plurals   Materials used: Writing/Reading/Grammar Workbooks (homemade) Sing, Spell, Read&Write Phonics Songs Flashcards Easy Readers, both borrowed from the library and homemade Zadok has struggled with reading, but he is starting to enjoy it.
